Stride Health
Public factsIndividual-market enrollment and decision support
HealthCare.gov partner that enrolls individuals in ACA medical, dental, vision, and life, and sells portable benefits accounts — used with ICHRA shopping, not a full ICHRA administrator.
Overview
Stride Health is a portable-benefits and individual-market enrollment company. It is an official HealthCare.gov partner and sells the same qualified health plans at marketplace prices, plus dental, vision, and life, with personalized recommendations and licensed-advisor support. Employers and platforms use Stride for 1099, part-time W-2, and hybrid workers who do not have group medical. Stride’s own site distinguishes portable benefits from ICHRA: ICHRA is a health-insurance reimbursement arrangement; portable benefits cover a wider set of worker-owned benefits. Stride is included here because ICHRA implementations often need an individual-market enrollment and decision-support layer.
Why it matters ICHRA only works if employees can actually pick and enroll in individual coverage. Stride is a scaled Marketplace enrollment partner, but it is not a substitute for an ICHRA TPA that writes plan documents and pays premiums.
- Target buyer
- Gig and hourly employers, payroll/HR platforms, and ICHRA or HRA programs that need employees to enroll in individual coverage.
- Pricing model
- Consumer enrollment (commission-based marketplace agency model implied); employer portable-benefits partnerships are quote-based; co-branded ACA portal advertised as free to the employer
- Homepage consumer hook is “save an average of $418/mo on health insurance” with an asterisk; that is a savings claim, not a platform fee. Employer partnership pricing is not published. The portable benefits savings account is described as a no-fee debit account except for certain limited foreign transactions.

Overview
Stride Health, Inc. operates an individual health-insurance shopping experience and a portable-benefits platform. Public metrics on the homepage: 4.6 million independent workers have used Stride; $8+ billion saved on insurance premiums and taxes (vendor figure); 130+ companies partner with Stride.
The consumer product finds Marketplace-equivalent coverage (“same plans at the same prices found on the marketplace”) in partnership with HealthCare.gov, with personalized recommendations, tax-credit screening, and advisor support. Open-enrollment dates published on the site follow the federal window (November 1–January 15 in the copy reviewed).
The employer/partner product is portable benefits for 1099, part-time W-2, and hybrid workforces — health access plus a worker-owned savings account that can receive company contributions, plus 1099 tax tools. Named news examples on the portable-benefits page include a Lyft/Stride Utah rideshare program and a DoorDash savings pilot in Georgia.
Stride’s CEO Noah Lang has discussed ICHRA in trade press (for example HR Executive), describing Stride as helping employees insured through an ICHRA make coverage decisions. That is decision support / enrollment, not ICHRA plan administration.
Key Capabilities
- Shop and enroll in ACA medical plans via a HealthCare.gov partner site, with decision support (doctors, budget, tax credits).
- Dental, vision, and life in the same portable-benefits suite.
- Advisor support by phone/chat without outbound “pesky phone calls,” per Stride’s FAQ.
- Portable benefits account that stays with the worker across jobs; companies can contribute targeted funds.
- Co-branded ACA health insurance portal for non-benefited workers, advertised as free to the employer (stridebenefits.com).
- 1099 expense/mileage tracking and IRS-ready reports.
- Partner tools: eligibility in workforce systems; programs by worker type, geography, or business objective.
Stride’s FAQ “How should I think about providing portable benefits vs. an ICHRA?” states they are different structures: ICHRAs are specifically for health insurance; portable benefits cover a wider range of benefits.
Integrations & Ecosystem
Stride is an approved HealthCare.gov partner and must meet federal web-broker standards (the co-branded portal discloses 45 CFR §155.220 and §155.260 obligations and that the site may not display all QHP data). Partner pages describe integration into existing workforce-management systems; a public connector catalog was not listed on the pages reviewed.
Stride is used by gig platforms, payroll/HR providers, and hourly employers. It is not documented on Stride.com as issuing ICHRA plan documents, running class/affordability testing, or reimbursing premiums as a TPA.
Pricing
No employer PEPM is published. Consumer medical enrollment follows the Marketplace agency model (carriers pay commissions; Stride does not publish a consumer enrollment fee on the homepage). The co-branded ACA portal is marketed as no cost to the employer. The benefits savings account is described as no-fee except certain foreign transactions, with a competitive yield (rate not specified here).
The “$418/mo” average savings figure is vendor-advertised and asterisked; do not treat it as a typical ICHRA employee result.
Notes & Limitations
- Not a full ICHRA administrator. Use Stride when the need is individual-market enrollment or portable benefits. Pair it with a TPA if the employer needs ICHRA plan docs, notices, attestation, and reimbursement/premium pay.
- Marketplace tax credits generally cannot be stacked with an affordable ICHRA offer; Stride’s tax-credit shopping path is for people who are Marketplace-eligible, not for employees who accept an affordable ICHRA.
- Co-branded portal language targets non-benefited workers; that is a different design than a formal ICHRA class.
- Worker-count and dollars-saved metrics are vendor-reported.
- “National” reflects Marketplace-partner positioning; state-based exchanges and plan display limits are disclosed.
