ICHRA administration

Minneapolis health-benefits company that administers ICHRA and also sells Comfort level-funded medical plus copay and HSA group plans for SMBs.

Overview

Gravie administers Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs) for employers that want a defined contribution toward individual-market coverage. Employees shop plans through Gravie; Gravie Care provides year-round member support; premium funds move through a Gravie ICHRA virtual funds account. ICHRAs are administered through Gravie Administrative Services LLC; individual policies are sold through Gravie Agency LLC. Gravie also sells Comfort, a level-funded plan with $0 member cost on many common services, plus traditional copay and HSA group plans and hybrid group + ICHRA packages.

Why it matters Gravie is one of the few ICHRA administrators that also offers level-funded group medical, so brokers can compare defined-contribution and group options with one vendor.

Target buyer
Small and midsize employers, and the brokers who place ICHRA or Gravie group/level-funded medical.
Pricing model
Quote-based ICHRA administration; group/level-funded medical priced separately
Public pages do not list a PEPM or implementation fee. Gravie reports ICHRA employers save as much as 29% on healthcare costs at renewal versus the prior year, and Comfort employers save an average of 15% in total premium; both figures are vendor-reported.

Overview

Gravie, Inc. is a Minneapolis-area health benefits company founded in 2013. Public materials position it for small and midsize businesses. Flagship group product Comfort is a level-funded plan that Gravie says covered 94% of office visits at no member cost in the prior year. Gravie also sells traditional copay and HSA health plans.

Gravie ICHRA is a separate defined-contribution offering. The employer sets a pre-tax contribution; employees buy individual coverage; Gravie handles shopping support, funding, and ongoing administration. Gravie states it has been “pioneering the individual contribution model since 2013.” A 2024 overview PDF says Gravie had improved benefits for over 3,300 employers and nearly 270,000 individuals and is backed by General Atlantic, AXA Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Georgian, and Split Rock Partners.

Legal split published by Gravie: ICHRAs are administered and managed through Gravie Administrative Services LLC, a licensed TPA. Individual health insurance policies are sold through Gravie Agency LLC, a licensed insurance producer. Gravie Care call centers are listed in Bloomington, Minnesota, and Las Vegas, Nevada. An employee enrollment guide lists Gravie Administrative Services LLC at 10 NE 2nd St, Suite 300 (Minneapolis area, ZIP 55413).

Comfort / level-funded context (same company, different product): Gravie describes stop-loss through Risk Solutions Insurance Company (Vermont), of which Gravie owns voting shares. Comfort overview materials have listed groups from 15 to 5,000+ employees and named Aetna or Cigna Healthcare national networks (regional on request), plus Teladoc and Sword Thrive.

Key Capabilities

  • Employers define a fixed dollar contribution; employees use those funds to buy individual coverage through Gravie ICHRA.
  • Window-shopping tool for individual-market plans by state. Gravie publishes 340+ carriers and 8,800+ plans nationwide, with a state-by-state interactive map.
  • Gravie ICHRA virtual funds account holds the employer contribution plus any employee paycheck deduction. Carriers pull premium from that account. Funding after checkout can take up to 7 business days.
  • Easy Enroll: Gravie handles enrollment and payment setup. Self Enroll: the employee enrolls on the carrier site and connects the Gravie account for payment.
  • Gravie Care advisors help evaluate plans, verify networks, locate providers, and review EOBs and bills, via phone or the member portal at member.gravie.com.
  • Medicare: employees using ICHRA funds for Medicare premiums submit an enrollment form; Gravie deposits ICHRA funds to the employee’s bank account.
  • Each employer is assigned an Implementation Manager and an Account Manager. ICHRA specialists run plan and budget analysis and contribution strategy.
  • Gravie also markets hybrid group + ICHRA packages and broker toolkits (proposal templates, compliance guides, implementation materials).

Vendor-reported ICHRA metrics on the public ICHRA page: as much as 29% employer savings at renewal versus the prior year, and 83% member CSAT. Comfort-related stats (15% average employer premium savings, 97% employer satisfaction, broker NPS 87) are published on the homepage and are not ICHRA-specific.

Integrations & Ecosystem

Gravie connects employers, employees, and individual-market carriers through Gravie Agency LLC and the virtual funds account. Public pages describe carrier premium pulls from the Gravie account rather than a published payroll-connector catalog. Brokers are a primary distribution channel; Gravie publishes a comprehensive broker’s ICHRA guide and an ICHRA toolkit.

Comfort / group plans (separate from ICHRA shopping) name Aetna or Cigna Healthcare networks, Teladoc, Sword Thrive, and RSIC stop-loss in Gravie PDFs. A named payroll or HRIS integration list was not published on the ICHRA pages reviewed. Confirm current connectors with Gravie.

Pricing

ICHRA administration fees, PEPM, and implementation charges are not listed on public Gravie pages. Buyers request a meeting or work through a broker. Comfort/level-funded medical is priced separately from ICHRA administration.

The 29% ICHRA renewal-savings figure and 15% Comfort premium-savings figure are Gravie’s own comparisons and are not independent audits.

Notes & Limitations

  • Gravie is both an ICHRA administrator and a group/level-funded medical vendor. Confirm which product (or hybrid) is being quoted.
  • Individual policies are produced through Gravie Agency LLC; existing brokers should confirm agent-of-record treatment.
  • Easy Enroll vs Self Enroll changes who completes carrier enrollment and payment setup.
  • Medicare ICHRA uses a different funding path (deposit to the employee bank account) than non-Medicare virtual-account premium pulls.
  • Public pages do not publish PEPM, implementation fees, or a full payroll/HRIS connector list.
  • Comfort $0 language applies to most common / in-network clinic-office services, not every claim.
  • “National” availability is based on Gravie’s nationwide TPA/agency positioning and state-by-state plan map; licensed-entity coverage should be confirmed per state.
  • Scale, savings, CSAT, and Comfort utilization figures are vendor-reported.
