Public facts

Group life, disability, dental, vision, absence, and voluntary

The Standard (StanCorp) workplace carrier for group life/AD&D, STD/LTD, dental, vision (VSP or EyeMed), absence, and voluntary benefits; acquired Allstate’s Employer Voluntary Benefits business on April 1, 2025.

Overview

The Standard is the marketing name for Standard Insurance Company (Portland, Oregon; licensed in all states except New York), The Standard Life Insurance Company of New York (White Plains; New York only), and—on the 2026 standard.com footer—American Heritage Life Insurance Company (Jacksonville, Florida). Public materials list group and individual disability, group life and AD&D, group dental and vision, voluntary benefits, absence management and paid family leave, plus retirement and annuities. The company dates to 1906. An older STD brochure said The Standard insured more than 25,700 groups and about 6 million employees. On April 1, 2025, StanCorp Financial Group bought Allstate’s Employer Voluntary Benefits business for $2.0 billion.

Why it matters The Standard is a life/disability/dental staple that now also owns the Allstate Employer Voluntary Benefits book (closed April 1, 2025).
